Tickets on sale for February Authors’ Luncheon, Spring Book Sale


Tickets are still available for a February luncheon featuring a best-selling spy thriller author, and dates are set in March for the big spring book sale, benefiting the nonprofit Friends of the Bonita Springs Library.

Speaking at lunch on Thursday, Feb. 24, seven-time Florida Book Award winner, Sarasota native Ward Larsen.

Larsen’s main series features CIA assassin David Slaton, and his latest novel, “Assassin’s Edge,” is slated for release in April. The author said his debut Slaton thriller, “The Perfect Assassin,” is currently being adapted into a major feature film by Amber Entertainment.

The lunch and conference will take place at the Audubon Country Club north of Naples. See information box for ticket details. Please note that Saturday February 19 is the deadline to purchase a ticket.

The Friends are also celebrating the recent reopening of its Book Nook bookstore, located inside the Bonita Springs Library, with regular opening hours and a series of book sales.

The Big Spring Book Sale, scheduled for March 24-26, will feature thousands of items including fiction and non-fiction books, cookbooks, children’s books, puzzles, DVDs and Music CDs and audio books. Hardcover books will cost $1 each; all others are half price, with paperbacks ranging from 25 cents to $1.

Donating friends will have the first chance to grab the top titles during a preview sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 24. Become a friend with a donation of as little as $25 or donate at the door to be admitted to the preview.

For the general public, regular Spring Book Sale hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 25 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 26.

The book sale will take place in the first floor meeting room of the Bonita Springs Library, 10560 Reynolds St., next to Old 41 in downtown Bonita Springs.

Proceeds from Friends’ book sales help the all-volunteer nonprofit group sponsor year-round programs for adults, teens and children. For a list of upcoming programs at the Bonita Library, go to and click Calendar of Events.

The Book Nook is open on the ground floor during library opening hours. Friends accept donations of lightly used books, CDs or puzzles, but not encyclopedias, magazines, damaged items or CDs without their original packaging.
