On September 7, a five-year agreement was announced between aerostructures manufacturer Spirit AeroSystems Inc. (Wichita, Kan., USA) and digital services and consulting company Infosys (Bengalaru, India).

Through this collaboration, Infosys will provide aerostructure and systems engineering services to support the design and fabrication of Spirit’s composite and metallic structures, including new product development and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). ) on composite components for engine nacelles, control surfaces and other parts. .

The collaboration will extend to operations of Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita; Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK; Prestwick, Scotland, UK; Kinston, North Carolina, USA; Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA; and Dallas, Texas, USA

“Design for manufacturing is a key part of our engineering development work. We use customer engineering tools that are state of the art as well as the best in the industry. In addition, Spirit has developed tools and methods for design automation and analysis, for composite and metallic structures. Infosys will work with us, providing a complementary service, on using these advanced tools to develop and support cost-competitive design certification. In MRO, Infosys will provide design assistance for repair scenarios to rebuild parts to their original capacity,” says Sean Black, senior vice president and chief engineer, engineering and technology at Spirit AeroSystems.

According to Infosys, this strategic collaboration builds on a 16-year long-standing relationship between the two organizations, during which Infosys provided innovative design solutions for some of Spirit’s aerostructure programs. As part of this commitment, Infosys will offer end-to-end product development services, including design engineering, sustain engineering, systems engineering, stress engineering, manufacturing, repair and maintenance. Leveraging knowledge-based engineering and engineering automation, Infosys also aims to accelerate product development across the entire value stream. Additionally, Infosys will help Spirit ensure highly efficient structural designs and a robust certification process, helping to manufacture innovative, lightweight and more durable aircraft structures and components.

Additionally, Infosys reports that its Aerospace Center of Excellence has experience delivering world-class design and engineering solutions for more than 22 years. With deep capabilities in aerostructure design ranging from conceptualization to release, mature composite design, and engineering automation, Infosys says it works with seven of the world’s top 10 aerospace companies and has been recognized as a leading player in aerospace and defense manufacturing.

“At Spirit AeroSystems, we believe that our ability to continuously advance our design and engineering offering is one of our competitive differentiators. Our longstanding collaboration with Infosys means we are well positioned to co-innovate on critical stages of product development, ensuring that we continue to pursue the highest standards of quality and airworthiness,” said Black. “This strategic agreement further strengthens our strengths and will leverage mutual synergies to accelerate the development of world-class sustainable aerostructures and services in our commercial and aftermarket segments.”

“Now more than ever, aerospace and defense organizations need to rapidly reinvent their digital foundation,” adds Jasmeet Singh, executive vice president and global head of manufacturing at Infosys. “We are excited to deepen our strategic collaboration with Spirit AeroSystems and accelerate their digital transformation, pushing the boundaries of product design and engineering. With our investments in aerostructure engineering and next-generation technologies such as artificial intelligence and cloud, we are confident to deliver compelling value to Spirit and take our collaboration to new heights.
