When Meghan first met Harry’s friends

Harry and Meghan started dating in the summer of 2016 and in March 2017 the prince was set to introduce his then girlfriend to his friends at the wedding of his Eton College pal Tom ‘Skippy’ Inskip.

Skippy and Lara Hughes-Young, who is a software developer and granddaughter of the late Conservative MP Michael Hughes-Young, were married at the Round Hill Hotel in Montego Bay, Jamaica, in front of 40 guests. The island is also where Meghan married her first husband, Trevor Engelson, in 2011.

Investigative journalist Tom Bower is the author of the book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors which detailed Meghan’s first encounter with Harry’s crew.

In an excerpt serialized by The Times Bower wrote: “The close-knit group was looking forward to meeting Meghan. They were quickly disappointed.

According to the book, a number of Harry’s pals and some of their relatives in attendance were unimpressed with Meghan because “she not only quibbled over the food, but acted ‘princess’.”

The author learned that the future Duchess ‘refused to engage with Harry’s friends’, with a mum adding: ‘She wasn’t interested in us’.

There have been reports in the past that Harry’s pals never got along with Meghan. Royal expert Kate Nicholl has previously spoken about this topic and how the Prince’s friends were surprised when they didn’t receive an invite to the Sussexes’ nightly reception after their royal wedding in 2018.

One of the Duke’s friends who spoke to Nicholl said they were “a bit surprised not to get the golden ticket for the evening”.

In an article for Vanity Fair, Nicholl noted that Harry’s longtime girlfriend Astrid Harbord was not invited. Neither Violet von Westenholz, who many say introduced the couple, nor Natalie Pinkham, Harry’s “former party friend”. Even Skippy and his wife were left off the guest list.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have yet to respond to claims made in Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors.
