Pequot Lakes author Candace Simar to speak on November 1 at the Brainerd Public Library online event


While the Brainerd Public Library does not host in-person events, tours by the authors of Brown Bag Lunch will be featured as live events on the Brainerd Public Library Friends Facebook page.

From noon to 1 pm on Monday, November 1, Pequot Lakes author Candace Simar will speak live to viewers on Facebook about her contribution to a new book, “Librarians of the West: A Quartet.”

Fourteen-year-old Pearl Ellingson learns life’s hard lessons as she struggles to build a library on the North Dakota border in Simar’s short story “Terrible and Wonderful.”

Simar has a passion for his Scandinavian heritage and a deep love for history. His historical novels include: “Escape to Fort Abercrombie”, “Shelterbelts”, “Blooming Prairie”, “Birdie”, “Pomme de Pot” and “Abercrombie Trail”. “Farm Girls” is a collection of poetry co-written with Angela Foster.

Simar has received awards from the Western Writers of America, Women Writing the West, the Will Rogers Gold Medallion, The Western Fictioneers, Midwest Book Awards, Bob Dylan Creative Writing Contest, Lake Region Review, League of Minnesota Poets, National Federation of State Poetry Societies, Dust and Fire, and The Writer’s Digest.
