NADDC trains 90 engineers on automotive designs



The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) decided to train young talents in automotive product design to complement the efforts of universities offering engineering courses.

The agency’s general manager, Engr. Jelani Aliyu, said that to achieve the goal, the council trained 90 graduates in five geopolitical zones of the country under its program to build strong software capabilities for automotive component engineering design.

Aliyu, who spoke at the closing ceremony of a two-week capacity building training for the North East geopolitical zone in Bauchi yesterday, said the council would complete its zonal training program with the region. South-South.

Represented by the council’s director of research, design and development, Dr Fidelis Mfewase Achiv, the DG said three participants had been selected from each of the six states making up the North East with two additional reserves making 20 trainees who have completed the intensive training at Bauchi. .

He said that after the zonal training, the NADDC would carry out the program in the 36 states of the federation and FCT, Abuja and then in the 109 senate districts with a view to instilling in the youngsters the knowledge to design automotive components.

Jelani, who said the training was the result of a skills shortage among young people in the automotive industry, noted that in the past automotive components were designed using T-squares and planks. to drawing, but with the daily improvement of technology, the software is used for the design of automobile components.

“Our council believes that we should complement the efforts of universities offering engineering programs to inculcate the curriculum in young people to design components for the automotive industry, not only for use in Nigeria, but even to sell them on the open markets of the international community,” he said. .

The Managing Director observed that with over 50 assembly plants in Nigeria, assembling various brands of automotive products, developing the capacity of young people to design some of these components, would instill in them the knowledge to improve our local content.

According to him, the components would be designed and manufactured locally not only to fit our vehicles but also to help save foreign currency which is used to import these components for our assembly plants, saying the program is open to various engineering disciplines for people who are graduates and unemployed.
