Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially stepped down from royal duties in March 2020 and have lived in California with their son Archie and daughter Lilibet ever since. However, their days as royals in Britain’s most famous family are still under discussion.

Prince Charles and Meghan were once very close

It has been reported that Prince Charles was once very close to his daughter-in-law.

The future king became very attached to Meghan after she started dating her son, and even agreed to step in and walk him down the aisle the day she and Harry said ‘yes’. Meghan was also believed to be the driving force behind Prince Charles and Prince Harry working to have a stronger relationship before she and Harry stepped down.

In addition, the Prince of Wales called Meghan “Tungsten”, a very resistant metal known for its robustness. He would have given her the nickname corresponding to the strength and determination she displayed. But according to a royal biographer, something Charles was planning to do once he became king really angered the Duchess of Sussex.

Why would Charles’ future plans for the monarchy have upset the Duchess of Sussex

It’s no secret that Prince Charles plans to make a number of changes when he takes the throne, and one of those changes includes his vision to ‘reduce the monarchy’. Before Megxit, only Charles, his wife, two sons and their wives were to be considered members of the royal family. Robert Lacey, author and historian for Netflix The crown, said Charles’ plans to do so were not well received by Meghan.

‘In pursuing his own cause of the lean monarchy, Prince Charles had made noise to further limit the number of HRHs created by the George V convention of 1917, thus cutting Archie off from his future prince-ship – and Meghan the took it personally, ”Lacey wrote in her book Battle of brothers (by Express).

Prince Harry’s wife has previously expressed her frustrations that her son did not receive a prince during his interview with Oprah Winfrey, but at that point she did not mention the reason why he did not receive the title.

After Meghan and Harry put an end to Charles’ original plan by leaving the firm, many royal fans have since wondered what the new monarchy might look like in the future.

In December 2020, Queen Elizabeth II did this like crystal when she held a rally outside Windsor Castle. She invited Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, his wife Sophie, as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton. The gathering featured each of them as the faces of the royal family after their reign was over. Whether or not Prince Charles sticks to his mother’s plan remains to be seen.
