Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Roorkee has a new director. President Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday approved the appointment of Professor Kamal Kishore Pant as the new Director of IIT Roorkee. Prof. K. K. Pant is currently Dean of Faculty at IIT Delhi and Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering. He is also a Petrotech Chair Professor (FIPI) at IIT Delhi.

An alumnus of IIT Kanpur, Prof. Pant got his B. Tech from HBTI Kanpur and his M. Tech from IIT Kanpur. He also did his PhD from IIT Kanpur.

Over a long and illustrious career spanning more than 30 years, Professor Pant has made a name for himself in industrial research and academia. As one of the country’s leading academicians, Professor Kant works on multiple technologies of national and international import. Among them, work on the conversion of coal into methanol, the management of electronic waste and plastic, the generation of hydrogen, the capture and conversion of CO2, the valorization of biomass, etc., using catalysis and reaction engineering.

He has to his credit more than 220 publications with more than 11746 citations and numerous patents. He has also completed over 50 high impact projects and consulted on projects worth over Rs. 1.02 billion for private as well as Indian government.

He has many awards and honors to his name. Among them, the prestigious Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) award, which has been awarded to him twice. He has also received the Dr. AV Rama Rao Award for Best Ph.D. three times. supervision, Dr. S. S. Deshpande award, Herdilia award from the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, and many others.

As a Professor of Chemical Engineering, Professor Pant teaches courses in Transport Phenomena, Advanced Transport Phenomena, Advanced Chemical Reaction Engineering, Plant Design and Economics, Petroleum Refinery Engineering, petrochemical technology, chemical reaction engineering, heterogeneous catalysis and catalytic reactors, and biomass. processing and use.

Professor Pant is also Adjunct Professor at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, Joint Professor at CRDT IIT Delhi and Honorary Professor at the University of Queensland in Australia. He would succeed Professor Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi.
