Carbon Governance advances the development of a new green hydrogen production project in Bintan

SINGAPORE, October 25, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Hydrogen has been one of the main options for replacing carbon-intensive fuels, and countries around the world have undertaken efforts to advance research into the use of hydrogen as energy source. Carbon Governance Pte Ltd, a green energy project development company based in Singaporerecently signed a memorandum of understanding with a local partner company in Bintan, Indonesiafor a long-term lease of land to develop a solar-powered green hydrogen production and export facility.

The solar farm will use high-efficiency bifacial solar panels and is expected to produce adequate and reliable power to operate the electrolyzers with a planned production capacity of 30,000 kilograms of green hydrogen per day. Green hydrogen will be exported to neighboring countries where demand is expected to grow exponentially over the next few decades. The ambitious green policy targets of countries in the region have also contributed to the expected increase in demand, in line with the emissions targets set during the COP26held in 2021.

Feasibility studies have been completed and the preliminary engineering design process has begun. The electrolyser technology partner selection process will be launched in January 2023. The Bintan Green Hydrogen project is expected to reach FID in the fourth quarter of 2023, and the export of green hydrogen to South East Asia is expected to start in the first quarter of 2027.
