Today, Archer Aviation announced that United Airlines has submitted a $10 million pre-delivery payment for 100 Archer initial production eVTOL aircraft.

This is a major milestone for the eVTOL industry, illustrating confidence in the commercialization of eVTOL aircraft as well as Archer’s leadership. United initially agreed to purchase 100 aircraft from Archer last year, demonstrating its interest in becoming one of the first US airline operators to market eVTOL aircraft.

Archer eVTOLArcher recently completed the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) of its production aircraft, an in-depth assessment of the aircraft design to ensure the program is ready to proceed to the next stage of development and launch production of long-term material. The review examines each element of the aircraft’s manufacturing specifications and requirements to assess the design’s feasibility for regulatory compliance and market entry.

This is the latest show of support from United throughout Archer’s development process. The two companies recently formed a Joint eVTOL Advisory Board, allowing both parties to collaborate more closely on eVTOL maintenance and operational issues. The committee includes members from Archer’s operations and maintenance management, as well as United’s maintenance, materials and engineering management.
