New capabilities in Ansys 2022 R2 span across physics, engineering disciplines, and industries to support the scale and interoperability needed to gain real-world product performance insights.

It’s nearly impossible to solve today’s complex product design problems without understanding everything from microscopic flaws in semiconductor chips to global operating environments that span space. Understanding the interplay of heat, light, sound, structural stresses, electromagnetic waves, and embedded software systems is critical to successful product development. Ansys 2022 R2 provides the precise predictive analytics, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) optimization, and scalable platform needed to meet tough engineering challenges while meeting tight deadlines.

Insight Driven Innovation

Ansys 2022 R2 provides insights that multiple industries can use to achieve their goals. For example, Ansys® Granta™ products help engineers consider material durability earlier in the design process. By displaying the latest durability data in simulation and computer-aided design (CAD) tools, engineers across multiple industries can gain perspective on material choices as part of their eco-design strategies.

Another example of industry-wide benefits can be found in optics where new features in Ansys® Speos™ optical simulation software save time by automatically creating the back side of a lens. This helps automotive lighting designers create lenses that achieve specific beam patterns, which also helps the general lighting industry create custom light patterns and control light pollution.

Model-based simulation and digital twins are helping large organizations transform to adopt streamlined, knowledge-driven business models. For example, Ansys® Maxwell® 2022 R2 electromechanical device analysis software provides reduced-order models (ROMs) for induction machines with improved predictive accuracy, which can be used in Ansys® Twin Builder™ for simulations of electric vehicle drive systems.

Scalable and open workflows

Ansys 2022 R2 offers technical innovations that connect physics and disciplines at all scales. For example, Ansys® LS-DYNA® is used by leaders in automotive crashes, electronics drop testing, airbag deployment and crash analysis. The new version includes a patent-pending multi-scale co-simulation capability that engineers use to predict the fatigue failure of solder balls in a printed circuit board (PCB) in a drop test at large scale.

Imagine that the same PCB is intended for use in a satellite in a “mega constellation” that includes hundreds to tens of thousands of satellites. With Ansys STK 2022 R2, engineers can include the satellite collection object in chained calculations to better analyze and understand complex routing options for connecting ground assets.

Ansys 2022 R2 enables organizations to create custom workflows for industry-specific applications while extending broad, easy-to-use functionality that energizes an organization. Some examples are listed below.

  • A magnetic lock coupling workflow builds on Maxwell and Ansys® Motion™ to improve magnetically attached accessories for tablets and eReaders.
  • A noise, vibration and harshness The workflow combines solutions across physics to provide electrical machine simulation with comprehensive electromagnetic, thermal, mechanical, noise, and drive cycle stress analyses.
  • Ansys Lighting helps photonic IC designers move freely between the Lumerical INTERCONNECT environment and popular design automation tools for IC layout and fabrication, while including semiconductor process variations.
  • The Ansys® HFSS™ Flex PCB Workflow helps engineers configure and resolve complex bends within flexible printed circuit interconnects, improving efficiency and predictive accuracy by including full-fidelity electromagnetic coupling effects.
  • The abilities of encrypted HFSS components have been extended to support IC design workflows, allowing engineers working with foundry technology files to protect sensitive intellectual property.
  • Users can now automate processes, create custom workflows, design custom solutions, and more with PyFluentopen-source access to Ansys® Fluent®, via the Python programming language.
  • A customizable toolbar for Ansys® Mechanical™ add-ons allow users to quickly and efficiently access versatile workflows.
  • Electronic reliability PCB component life predictions have been improved for customers in the aerospace, high-tech, and automotive industries.

Platform-powered performance

As simulations grow larger and more complex, Ansys 2022 R2 enables users to run large jobs and overcome hardware capacity limitations with HPC and enhanced solver algorithms that take advantage of graphics processing units (GPUs).

In Ansys 2022 R2, the Fluids product line continues to make computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations more efficient and sustainable. Results from using the Live-GX solver in Fluent show that six high-end GPUs deliver the same performance as over 2,000 CPUs.

The Speos optical solver takes advantage of multi-GPU and multi-node deployments. A single GPU is up to 8x faster than a 32-core CPU machine, and 20 GPUs show performance similar to 5,000 CPU cores. Speos’ new feature allows users to increase the ray count to improve the predictive accuracy of the simulation, account for nighttime weather conditions for sensor validation, and simulate any stray light effects.

Ansys 2022 R2 includes two new semiconductor products – Ansys® Totem-SC™ and Ansys® PathFinder-SC™ – for power integrity and ESD reliability approval, respectively. These products use Ansys® SeaScape™, a cloud-optimized elastic computing platform, to deliver remarkable speed and capacity for the largest designs. Ansys internal tests have shown that large simulations can complete up to 6 times faster with reduced memory.
